Managing Parental Consent on Behalf of Child Data Subjects
You can allow parental consent on behalf of child data subjects by configuring a Collection Point to accept a data subject identifier of your choice as a parent identifier. When this configuration is enabled, the respective parent and child identities are linked and grouped into a data subject group. You can manage these parent-child relationships on the Data Subject Groups screen.
Enabling parental consent on behalf of child data subjects is available for OneTrust Hosted Web Form and API type collection points only.
For more information on grouping parent and child data subject identifiers, see Managing Data Subject Groups.
Things to Know
When a Collection Point is created with parent-child relationships enabled:
-
All Double Opt-in (DOI) emails are sent to the Parent if the DOI setting is enabled and the Parent has an email identifier type.
-
If the Parent does not have email as the identifier type but the child does, the DOI email is sent to the child.
-
If neither the Parent nor the child has an email identifier type, no email is sent and the data subject's receipt is marked as Active.
-
If the identifier type of the Parent is email but an invalid email address is entered, then the transaction is created as Pending.

To send all Preference Center notifications to a Parent Data Subject
You can allow parental consent on behalf of data subjects for notifications so that all Double Opt-in, reconfirmation, and preference update emails will be sent to the Parent Data Subject.
If this setting is enabled and the Double Opt-in (DOI) setting is also enabled, emails and update notifications are sent to the Parent identifier. If there are multiple Parents, then the update notifications are sent to all the Parents in that group.
Additionally, if the magic link is being used on a parental identifier, the Parent can update consent on behalf of any children in the Preference Center. Any activity of the Parent copying the magic link is logged under the user activity for that particular Data Subject.
